BRUNSWICK, Maine – Goaltender Richard Nerland posted his
second shutout of the season and five different Polar Bears scored
to lead the Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team to a 5-0
win over Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon at Sidney J.
Watson Arena. The Polar Bears have won three straight and improve
to 10-4-0 (8-3-0 NESCAC) while the Camels fall to 3-12-1 (2-8-1
NESCAC).
Bowdoin got things going following a faceoff win midway through the
opening period. Robert Toczylowski collected the puck, circled and
snapped a shot that slipped through the pads of Camel goaltender
Greg Parker at 9:20. The Polar Bears added to their lead 35 seconds
into the second period when Kyle Shearer-Hardy picked up a loose
puck and skated in alone on Parker, faking right and burying a
wrist shot inside the left post for a 2-0 advantage. Brendan Reich
added to the Bowdoin lead with a goal at 8:34 of the period to give
the hosts a three-goal lead heading into the final frame.
The Polar Bears opened the third period with another score as
Leland Fidler carried the puck into the zone, circled around the
net and found Kyle Hanson in front for a one-timer at 1:22. Colin
MacCormack added a goal at 6:23 to round out the five-goal win for
Bowdoin.
Bowdoin held a 43-12 advantage in shots for the game, holding the
Camels scoreless for just the second time this season. Nerland
stopped all 12 shots he faced while Parker collected 38 saves on
the afternoon. MacCormack led the hosts with two assists to go with
his goal while Fidler also posted a two-assist effort.
