MEDFORD, Mass. - Bowdoin senior Gillian Page became the
program's all-time kills leader as the women's volleyball team
split a pair of matches at day one of the MIT Invitational on
Friday. Page is just the second Polar Bear to surpass 1,000 kills
for her career, breaking the mark formerly held by Julie Calareso
'07.
Bowdoin opened the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Wellesley
(25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-3) before falling to Tufts, 3-0
(25-17, 25-19, 25-23). The Polar Bears advance to play in the
Silver Bracket on Saturday against MIT at 10:00 a.m. with the fifth
or seventh-place match scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Page led the Polar Bears in kills in both matches and now has 1,024
for her career. Page posted 13 kills and six aces in the victory
over Wellesley while Melissa Haskell notched 11 with a team-high 20
digs. Kristin Hanczor also saw double figures with 10 kills while
Stephanie Bond collected 44 assists.
After surviving Wellesley in a five-set thriller, the Polar Bears
ran out of gas against the Jumbos, falling in three straight. Page
had 20 digs and nine kills in the loss.
