BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior captain Pat Driscoll tossed a
complete-game shutout to lead the Polar Bear baseball team to a 4-0
win over Colby on Friday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to
14-12 (1-3 NESCAC) while the Mules fall to 5-10 (1-3 NESCAC). With
the win, Driscoll extended his scoreless innings streak to 16,
having not allowed a run since March 27 against Trinity.
The Polar Bears scored a single run in the first and second
frames, as Reid Auger scored on a Joe Berte sacrifice fly and then
plated Matt Ruane with a single to give Bowdoin a 2-0 lead. Bowdoin
added to their lead with a solo home run from Ruane in the fourth
inning and tacked on a run in the seventh when Kevin Zikaras scored
from third on a wild pitch.
Meanwhile, Driscoll did not allow a single Colby batter past
second base, scattering five hits and striking out five while
walking none. The senior captain got a pair of key double plays and
plenty of help from his infield, including shortstop Adam Marquit
who fielded 12 chances perfectly on the afternoon. Matt Moore took
the loss for Colby, allowing four earned runs over nine innings in
defeat.
The teams will play a doubleheader in Waterville on Saturday
beginning at noon.
