ORONO, Maine - The Trinity College baseball team defeated
Bowdoin 5-3 on Friday evening in the NESCAC-opening contest for
both squads. The Bantams improve to 10-2 overall this season while
the Polar Bears dip to 10-9. Friday's game was played at Mahaney
Diamond on the campus of the University of Maine due to unplayable
field conditions in Brunswick. The teams will play a doubleheader
in Orono on Saturday beginning at noon.
Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three and a half innings
before Bowdoin was able to trim the lead to 3-2 on a Brett Gorman
rbi single in the bottom of the fourth. The Bantams extended their
lead with single runs in the seventh and eighth inning en route to
victory. Ryan Piacentini led Trinity with three hits while Kent
Graham, Alex LiDonni and Alexander Rokicki each connected for
doubles for the Bantams. Adam Marquit also had an rbi single for
the Polar Bears.
Jeremiah Bayer went the distance to collect the win for Trinity
while Pat Driscoll was tagged with the loss for Bowdoin.
