BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team scored
six unanswered goals in the first half en route to a 16-9 victory
over Keene State College on Wednesday afternoon. The Polar Bears,
ranked 13th in Division III, improve to 5-1 this season while the
Owls drop to 2-2 overall.
Keene State stymied the Polar Bears in the early going, getting
goals from Griffin Meehan and Casey Broderson to take a 2-0 lead
nine minutes into the game. Bowdoin found their stride shortly
thereafter, however, rolling off six-straight goals to take control
of the game. Eric Thompson, Mark Flibotte and Rob Halliday closed
out the first quarter with scores before Matt Legg, Cullen Winkler
and Flibotte finished off the run with three consecutive goals to
open the second. The Owls were able to trim the lead to 7-5 with a
pair of Meehan goals later in the period, but Bowdoin closed out
the half with back-to-back tallies from Owen Smith and Russ
Halliday to take a 9-5 lead at the break.
Keene State could get no closer as the Polar Bears continued their
offensive onslaught in the second half, scoring a season-high 16
goals in the victory. Bowdoin's balanced scoring attack featured
five players with two goals apiece. Adam Tracy, Matt Legg, Owen
Smith, Justin Starr and Mark Flibotte each had a pair of scores.
Robert Burkhardt made seven saves in the first half before giving
way to Chris Williamson, who stopped four shots in the second half.
Ben York and Bryan Holden had six groundballs apiece for the Polar
Bears.
The Owls were paced by four goals and an assist from Meehan while
Casey Broderson had two goals and 11 groundballs. Alec Corliss made
six saves in the opening half for Keene while David Brochu stopped
three in the second half.
