POMONA, Calif. - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team rallied
to win their NESCAC opener on Tuesday, 5-4 over Trinity College.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-2 overall this spring and will play at
Pomona-Pitzer in their final California match on Wednesday.
Jamie Neely and Stephen Sullivan could muster the only Polar Bear
point in doubles play, coming at the number two position as Trinity
led 2-1 heading into singles. Neely then claimed his singles match
in straight sets at number six to even the score at two apiece.
After Alex White fell at #3 singles, Trinity got another point at
#4 singles when Alex Caughron dropped in three sets to give Trinity
a 4-2 lead.
All three remaining matches went to three sets and Bowdoin claimed
all three to clinch the win. Sullivan defeated #13 Spencer Feldman
at #1 singles while Oscar Pena rallied from down a set and 5-2 in
the second to win five straight games to win the second set and
take a three-set win. All eyes turned to #5 singles where Tyler
Anderson entered his third set. Anderson, who won the deciding
match at last year's NESCAC Championship, won his deciding third
frame, 6-3, to seal the win.
