EAGLE LAKE, Fla. - Brendan Garner hit three home runs on the day
as the Bowdoin College baseball team split a doubleheader against
Endicott at the Russmatt Invitational on Saturday. The Polar Bears
won the opener 12-6 before falling in the nightcap, 5-4. Bowdoin
currently stands at 6-4 this season and will play a pair of games
against Worcester State Sunday.
Bowdoin's offense dominated game one, as the team pounded out five
home runs in the victory. Reid Auger hit a pair of homers while
Jason Koperniak, Brett Gorman and Garner also connected for
round-trippers. Koperniak had a team-high three hits including a
pair of doubles in addition to his homer. Joe Pace went four
innings for the win, scattering four walks and five hits in the
victory.
The Polar Bears led 4-2 after four innings, but squandered a late
lead to lose the second game of the day. Two home runs by Garner
accounted for three of Bowdoin's four runs, but the Polar Bears
committed six errors overall in the loss. Carter Butland tossed
five strong innings, allowing three earned runs while Jordan Edgett
was tagged for the loss in relief despite just allowing one earned
run and striking our four in two innings pitched.
