BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Katie Bergeron tied the school
record with six three-pointers, sparking the Polar Bear women's
basketball team to a 91-58 Senior Day rout of Williams. The Polar
Bears (18-4, 6-1 NESCAC) win their 13th consecutive meeting with
the Ephs dating back to 2001. The 33-point margin of victory was
also the largest ever for Bowdoin against Williams (8-14, 3-4
NESCAC).
Thanks to red-hot shooting by the Polar Bears in the opening half,
Bowdoin put the game out of reach early. Down 4-3 after a pair of
Mika Peterman free-throws for Williams, a trio of Bergeron
trifectas sparked a 20-0 run for the hosts, giving Bowdoin a 19
point lead just seven minutes into the game. The Polar Bears would
extend their first-half lead to as many as 25 points and carried a
47-24 edge into intermission thanks to 18 points off turnovers and
18 second-chance points.
The Polar Bears stretched their lead to as many as 35 points in
the second half en route to victory. Bowdoin connected for 11
three-pointers as a team, led by six from Bergeron, who equaled her
previous record that she also holds with Julia Loonin '07. Bergeron
led all scorers with 22 points on the day while Alexa Kaubris (12),
Leah Rubega (11) and Jill Henrikson (10) also saw double figures
for the Polar Bears. Maria Noucas had nine assists and three steals
for Bowdoin. Williams was led by 20 points from Taylor Shea while
Peterman scored 12 in defeat.
In pre-game ceremonies, Bowdoin honored their three seniors; Maria
Noucas, Alexa Kaubris and Jill Anelauskas. The trio has led the
Polar Bears to a pair of NESCAC titles, three NCAA tournament
appearances and an overall record of 93-18 in their career.
