BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Williams College women's swimming and
diving team extended their lead, winning six of eight events on
Saturday at Day Two of the 2009 NESCAC Championship hosted by
Bowdoin College. The Ephs boast a team total of 1313.5 to lead
second-place Amherst (1047.5) by 266 points. Tufts University
stands in third place overall with 819.5 points.
Williams set four meet records on Saturday, as Erin Altenburger
earned a pair of wins, taking first in the 1000 yard freestyle,
breaking the meet and Greason Pool record in a time of 10:07.85,
before posting a victory in the 100 backstroke in 57.11. Amanda
Nicholson claimed the 400 individual medley in 4:20.59, breaking
her own record set a year ago. The Ephs also won the 200 medley
relay in meet record time, posting a pace of 1:45.58. Rookie Logan
Todhunter set a new NESCAC record in the 100 butterfly prelims and
followed it up with her second win in as many days, earning the
championship final victory in 55.27. Courney Asher rounded out the
Williams winners by taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.36.
Amherst picked up wins in the other two events as Kendra Stern
captured the 200 freestyle in 1:50.20. Stern helped the Jeffs win
the final race of the evening, teaming with Becca Thompson, Alex
Lee and Meaghan Stern to win the 800 freestyle relay in a
pool-record time of 7:31.93.
