CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bowdoin College swimming and diving teams
performed in a strong field at the MIT Invitational this weekend.
The men placed fifth of seven teams while the women earned sixth of
seven squads.
First-year Katherine Foley made a splash for the Polar Bears,
taking a second-place finish in both the 500 yard freestyle
(5:15.30) and 200-yard free (1:58.47). Caitlin Callahan was fourth
in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.18) while Allison Palmer swam
fifth in the 50 freestyle (25.26) and Allen Garner fifth in the 200
backstroke (2:16.40). The 800 yard freestyle relay team was the
women's top team result, collecting fifth (8:11.73).
On the men's side, Nathan Mecray and rookie Ben Stuyvesant boasted
the top individual performances. Mecray was second in the 100 yard
breaststroke (58.00) and garnered fifth in the 200 breaststroke
(2:14.96). Stuyvesant placed fourth in the 100 (54.38) and 200
(2:01.22) backstroke competitions. Among the relay races, the men's
200 medley finished third (1:37.76) while the 400 medley took
fourth (3:36.64).
The teams will not compete again until January 16 when they host
rival Bates at Greason Pool.
