WATERVILLE, Maine - Brendan Reich and Daniel Weiniger scored two
goals apiece and Erik Olson chipped in four assists to the lead the
Polar Bear men's ice hockey team to a 7-1 win over Salve Regina in
the opener of the Bowdoin/Colby Faceoff Classic in Waterville
Saturday. With the win, Bowdoin improves to 3-0-0 this season. The
Seahawks dip to 1-3-0 overall.
Bowdoin racked up 21 shots and four goals in the opening period,
two of which came off the stick of Reich. Kyle Shearer-Hardy and
Weiniger also tossed in goals to give the Polar Bears an early
edge. Weiniger scored his second of the game late in the second
period before Ryan Blossom and Kyle Hanson added third-period
goals.
Bowdoin held a 67-20 advantage in shots for the contest and
received 12 saves from Chris Rossi, who permitted no goals in 40
minutes of play. Richard Nerland played 15 minutes in the third
stanza, making five saves and allowing a goal before giving way to
John Scannell (two saves) in the final 4:26.
Patrick Bambery scored Salve's lone goal in the game with 9:37
remaining in the third. Ben Bradley was peppered with shots between
the pipes and made 60 stops. Bowdoin improves to 5-0-0 all-time
against the Seahawks with the victory.
