Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Gina Dinallo made 13 saves in
goal to lead the Trinity College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory
over Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College
Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this afternoon on
Robin Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in the nation, improves
to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in the NESCAC, while the 13th-ranked Polar
Bears fall to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the league.
The Bantams jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from sophomore
Payson Sword midway through the first half. Trinity added a second
goal, compliments of senior Carrie Wolcott, to take a 2-0 lead
toward the end of the half. Junior Robyn Williams collected assists
on both goals.
Bowdoin made things interesting in the second half, applying
constant offensive pressure and outshooting Trinity, 13-0, in the
period. The Polar Bears outshot the Bantams, 21-3, in the game.
Senior Kara Kelley beat Dinallo for the lone Bowdoin score in the
second half, but the Polar Bears could not find the equalizer.
With the victory, Trinity clinches the top spot in the NESCAC
Championship Tournament, scheduled to begin on Nov. 1.
