BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Mark Phillips scored a game-high 23
points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Polar Bear men's
basketball team to a 74-58 victory over Thomas on Thursday evening.
Bowdoin improves to 9-3 this season while the Terriers drop to 3-7
overall.
Bowdoin opened up a 36-22 lead at intermission thanks to a 9-0
surge over the final 3:19 of the first half. The Polar Bears led by
as many as 17 points in the early moments of the second period
before a quick 8-1 run by the Terriers - sparked by a pair of
Michael Burchill three-pointers - trimmed the lead to nine points,
61-52, with 6:24 remaining.
The Polar Bears outscored Thomas 11-4 over the final five
minutes, however, to seal the victory. Bowdoin absolutely dominated
the rebounding battle, holding a 52-26 edge over Thomas. Thanks to
Phillips' inside game, the Polar Bears also held a 40-16 scoring
advantage in the paint.
Kyle Jackson also posted a double-double with 12 points and 10
rebounds in addition to three blocks. Tim Lane scored 16 points and
gathered nine caroms while Paul Sellew earned seven assists on the
night. Thomas was led by 22 points from Andrew Duncanson and 16
points from Darrell Alexander.
