WATERVILLE, Maine - Caitlin Hynes scored a career-high 24 points
and the Bowdoin College women's basketball team never trailed on
their way to a 73-49 thumping of Colby on Saturday afternoon. The
Polar Bears, who committed a season-low five turnovers, improve to
13-3 and win their NESCAC opener. Colby falls to 7-6 (0-1) NESCAC
overall. Bowdoin has claimed 18 straight wins over their Waterville
rivals dating back to 2001.
Bowdoin sprinted out to a 10-4 lead and Colby could not get closer
than four points for the majority of the opening half. The Polar
Bears connected on five first-half three-pointers and outscored the
Mules 12-6 over the final four minutes of the period to take a
37-24 halftime lead. The Polar Bears did not commit a turnover in
the second half as they held a 25-4 advantage in points off
turnovers. Hynes scored 13 points in the second period en route to
a career-high 24 along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Maria Noucas dealt nine assists for Bowdoin, who had four players
in double-figures. Joining Hynes in double digits were Jill
Henrikson (12), Alexa Kaubris (11) and Katie Bergeron (10). Colby
was led by 24 points from Rachel Mack. The Polar Bears have won 10
of their last 11 and have held their opponents to 50 or fewer
points in their last six victories.
