BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Lindsay McNamara tied the school
record with five goals to lead the top-ranked Polar Bear field
hockey team to a 6-0 win over Wheaton on Sunday afternoon. Bowdoin
improves to 2-0 with their 22nd consecutive win. The Lyons drop to
2-1 overall.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, McNamara collected a hat
trick in a three-minute span to put the Polar Bears ahead. Her
fourth and fifth goals game in a 2:10 span shortly after halftime
to tie the school record. The 35-year old mark was set by Margaret
Burns in 1973 and tied by Sheila Carroll in 1987.
Shavonne Lord closed out the scoring with her first goal of the
year with 21 minutes remaining. Bowdoin held a 36-1 advantage in
shots.
Emileigh Mercer (35 minutes, one save) and Emily Neilson (35
minutes, 0 saves) split time in net for Bowdoin. Wheaton's Andrea
Bagley valiantly made 18 saves in defeat.
