FALMOUTH, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's tennis team defeated
Skidmore, 5-0, in a Second-Round NCAA Division III Tournament match
on Saturday played at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine. The
match was moved to Falmouth due to rain and was pushed back from a
10:00 a.m. to a 2:00 p.m. start.
The Polar Bears (15-8) advance to play the winner of Saturday's
late match between Salve Regina and Emory. The match will be played
at the Portland Athletic Club at noon on Sunday.
The Polar Bears swept the doubles matches, thanks to a sensational
comeback by Stephen Sullivan and Jamie Neely at the #2 doubles
spot. The pair rallied from a 6-1 deficit to claim a 9-8 (8) win
over Carl-Eric Girardin and Cameron Clark. Bowdoin needed just a
pair of singles wins and got them right away from Stephen Sullivan
(#2) and Neely (#4) to clinch the victory.
Skidmore, who was making their first-ever NCAA Tournament
appearance, ends one of the most successful seasons in program
history with a mark of 13-7.
