WATERVILLE, Maine - Ten different players scored as the Bowdoin
men's ice hockey team posted a 10-1 win over Salve Regina in the
opening day of the Colby-Bowdoin Face-Off Classic on Friday. The
Polar Bears used a five-goal second period and posted four
powerplay goals in the win.
Play switches to Bowdoin on Saturday when the Polar Bears
(2-0-1) play host to University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth at 6
p.m. Salve Regina and Colby play in the first game Saturday at 2:30
p.m.
Jordan Lalor and Mike Collins each had one goal and three
assists to lead Bowdoin. Aaron O'Callahan, Mike Corbelle, and
Jeff Fanning all had one goal and two assists.
The Polar Bears, who had a 52-15 shot advantage, only led 1-0
after the first period on a Fanning goal at 9:14. The game stayed
that way until Corbelle tallied at 8:30 of the second period. With
the same group still on the ice, Mike Collins scored just 21
seconds later to put the Polar Bears up 3-0.
Bowdoin scored just 41 seconds apart a few minutes after the
goal by Collins. Kyle Shearer-Hardy found the back of the net at
11:01 and Lalor made it 5-0 at 11:41.
Salve Regina (1-6-1) cut the lead to 5-1 on a goal by Tyler Trott
at 14:11 of the second period, but Bowdoin's Matt Smith made
it 6-1 at the break with a goal at 18:00. Leland Fidler,
O'Callahan, Brendan Reich, and Erik Olson all had goals in
the third period. Olson, a first-year player, scored his first
collegiate goal.
Chris Rossi made 10 saves in about 46 minutes of action in net for
Bowdoin and Nick Smith made four saves the rest of the way. Chase
Goodrich made 31 saves in two periods for the Seahawks, while Ben
Bradley finished with 11 stops in the final period.
