WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team
rebounded from their first shutout in nearly two years with an
explosive performance in an 8-1 win at Colby on Saturday. The win
sets up a battle between second-ranked Bowdoin (12-1, 7-1) and
fifth-ranked Tufts (12-0, 8-0) next Friday in Brunswick for the top
seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. Colby falls to 5-8 (2-6)
this season.
Lindsay McNamara reached the 25-goal plateau for the second time
in her career with a four-goal, one-assist performance. McNamara
scored goals in the first two minutes of each half to get Bowdoin
off to quick starts. The Polar Bears led 6-0 at halftime on three
goals by McNamara and one apiece from Madeleine McQueeney, Shavonne
Lord, and Julia King. McNamara scored 47 seconds into the second
half to put the Polar Bears up 7-0.
The Mules did score the fifth goal of the season allowed by
Bowdoin when Mary Clare Snediker recorded her 28th career goal off
an assist from Meryl Poulin.
Lord, who finished with a pair of goals, closed out the scoring
for the Polar Bears with 18:41 left in the game. King added a goal
and two assists, while Kara Kelley had two assists. Emileigh Mercer
stopped two shots for Bowdoin in playing the first half while Emily
Neilson collected no saves in the second half for the Polar Bears.
Colby's Liz Fontaine made eight saves.
