BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College fall sports season is off
to a rousing start, as three of Bowdoin's teams are still unbeaten
two weeks into the regular season. The men's soccer (2-0) and field
hockey (3-0) teams are ranked high in the national polls, while the
women's soccer team (3-0) is among the top teams in the regional
rankings.
The men's soccer team has taken two consecutive 2-1 wins over
New England foes Wesleyan and Wheaton and will take on Plymouth
State on Tuesday evening before hosting rival Williams on Saturday
in Brunswick. The Polar Bears are ranked first in New England and
fifth in the latest national poll released by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America.
Since falling behind to Wellesley early in their first game of
the season, the field hockey squad has outscored their opponents
9-0 on their way to a 3-0 mark. After beating Wellesley 4-1, the
Polar Bears dropped Wesleyan and Wheaton in consecutive days to
move up the national rankings. Bowdoin stands at number 15 in the
National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, and will host
12th-ranked Williams on Saturday.
Meanwhile, perhaps the most impressive team to start the season
in Brunswick is the women's soccer team. Bowdoin has outscored foes
11-1 to open their schedule with three straight wins. The Polar
Bears held steady at number four in the New England rankings and
will play Williams on Saturday.
