Bowdoin College

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Emily Ferguson scored twice as the Bowdoin College field hockey team dominated play and used a three-goal third quarter to pull away for a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday evening at Ryan Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-2 overall with the non-conference victory, while the Huskies fall to 6-4.

Game Highlights

• Bowdoin controlled play throughout the opening half before breaking the game open in the third quarter.
• Emily Ferguson broke through early in the second half with a rocket from the left side of the circle.
• The Polar Bears then added two more goals just 44 seconds apart, with Hannah Balmelli and Ferguson finding the back of the net to give Bowdoin a commanding three-goal lead just 6:44 into the second half.
• Charlotte Crawford also scored for the Polar Bears, while Bowdoin's defense kept Southern Maine off the scoreboard to complete the shutout.

By the Numbers

• Ferguson finished with two goals, while Balmelli and Crawford scored once apiece.
• Maddie Mrva, Clara Noyes, and Katie Athanasoulas each recorded an assist.
• Bowdoin totaled 13 shots, including seven on goal.
• Eva Filipponi played the first 48:35 in goal before Izzy Kittredge finished the final 11:25. Neither goalkeeper needed to make a save in the combined shutout.
• Southern Maine goalkeeper Haylee Romasco made three saves.
• The Polar Bears have won 23 straight against the Huskies dating back to 2002.
