Field Hockey Dominates Thomas on Saturday

WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 10 nationally ranked Bowdoin College field hockey team played to an 8-0 victory for the first time in over two years to take down Thomas on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears saw seven different scorers and all three goalkeepers make an appearance in goal to elevate to 6-2 overall (3-2 NESCAC) as Thomas drops to 3-9 overall.

Game Highlights

  • The Polar Bears held the upper hand from wire-to-wire with two goals in the first two quarters with a 16-4 lead in shots while defensively holding Thomas without a shot until midway through the second quarter.
  • Emily Ferguson, the squad's leader in goals this season, tallied two scores in the first half with Fei Yang-Sady and Maddie Mrva also adding goals for a 4-0 lead into half.
  • Bowdoin continued to apply pressure on the attack and saw two additional goals in the third quarter from Clara Noyes and Charlotte Crawford while holding Thomas without a shot.
  • Jayna Khatti and Grayson Dolins scored their first career goals for Bowdoin in the fourth quarter to decide the contest at 8-0.

By The Numbers 

  • The Polar Bears reached 30 or more shots for the second time this season, finishing with a lopsided 30-6 shot advantage and a 17-3 shot on goal edge, a season high for Bowdoin.

  • Goalkeepers Eva Filipponi, Izzy Kittredge and Ella Cherenek combined for a shutout with Fillipponi making two saves and Kittredge adding a stop.

  • Mrva recorded a career-high four points with a goal and two assists in the win.
