BRUNSWICK, Maine – The ninth-ranked Bowdoin College field hockey team came up just short in a nationally-ranked battle against sixth-ranked Middlebury, falling 2-1 on Saturday morning at Ryan Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in NESCAC play, while Middlebury improves to 5-1 (4-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Middlebury struck first at the 5:27 mark of the opening quarter as Claire McMichael scored to give the Panthers an early 1-0 advantage.
- Bowdoin's defense settled in from there, allowing just one Middlebury shot in the second quarter as Eva Filipponi made a save to keep the deficit at one heading into halftime.
- The Polar Bears pulled even midway through the third quarter. Following a penalty corner, Emily Ferguson redirected a shot from Ella Davies at 38:34 to deadlock the contest.
- Middlebury regained the lead just over five minutes later when Addie Chandler scored at 43:42, giving the Panthers a 2-1 edge entering the fourth quarter.
- Bowdoin controlled much of the final period, outshooting Middlebury 5-0 and earning four penalty corners. The Polar Bears generated several chances during a sustained push midway through the quarter, including a Clara Noyes shot that was saved by Middlebury goalkeeper Izzy Redzic, but could not find the equalizer.
