Men’s Soccer Downs Top-Ranked Wesleyan Behind Fowler's Winner

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team earned a late 1-0 victory over No. 1 nationally-ranked Wesleyan at the Pickard Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears elevate to 3-0-2 overall (1-0-1 NESCAC) while Wesleyan falls to 3-1-1 overall (1-1-0 NESCAC). 

Game Highlights

  • The two teams were scoreless through the first half, with the Polar Bears holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks and a 5-4 advantage in shots
  • The Cardinals outshot Bowdoin 7-3 in the second half with a 4-3 shot on goal lead
  • William Fowler broke the scoreless contest in the 79th minute for his second-career goal off a cross by freshman Holden Langlois finding Fowler for the header on the far side for the eventual game-winner
  • Polar Bear goalkeeper Oliver King and the backline stood tall down the stretch making four saves facing seven shots in the second half.

  • Wesleyan held an 11-8 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • The home team posted a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks
  • King secured his second consecutive shutout with seven saves on the day. 
  • Langlois earned his first career-point as a Polar Bear with an assist on the game-winning goal.
