Men’s Soccer ties with Amherst in NESCAC Opener

AMHERST, Mass. – Trailing 1-0 late in the second half, senior William Fowler netted his first career goal in the 69th minute to help the Bowdoin College men's soccer team play to a 1-1 tie at Amherst in the NESCAC opener on Saturday. The Polar Bears remain unbeaten with a 1-0-2 record (0-0-1 NESCAC) while Amherst sits 1-1-1 overall (0-1-1 NESCAC).

Game Highlights

  • The Mammoths held momentum in the first half, outshooting the visitors 8-0 in the period while holding a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

  • Amherst struck first just before halftime off a free kick from close range, resulting in a header with 31 seconds to go.

  • Fowler provided a spark off the bench following a yellow card that set up a free kick for Bowdoin. The free kick by Patrick Ritter advanced the ball to Patrick Brady in the box who headed the ball to Fowler on the far side for the chip in to tie the contest in the 69th minute. Both Ritter and Brady earned assists on the career-first by Fowler.

  • Goalkeeper Oliver King and the Polar Bears defense stood tall to close out the second half, with King making two stops down the stretch, facing five shots in frame.

  • Amherst held advantages in shots (13-2) and shots on goal (5-1) as each team had three corner kicks.

  • The contest saw 29 total fouls and three yellow cards, two by the home team and one by the Polar Bears.

  • King made four saves for Bowdoin.
