Men's Tennis Rallies Past Middlebury To Return to NESCAC Finals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's tennis team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Middlebury, 4-2, in the semifinals of the NESCAC Championship Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears (17-3) advance to the NESCAC title match for the fourth straight season and will play Tufts for the crown at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at Wesleyan.
 
Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin trailed after doubles as the Panthers claimed two of the three matches to gain the point heading into singles play. Bowdoin's Mick Tamas and Aden Dorros did earn a win at number three by a 6-2 margin.
  • After losing the first completed singles match to fall behind 2-0, Bowdoin stormed back, getting three-set wins from Cameron Zia (6-1, 6-7, 6-1), Kiran Garapati (6-3, 5-7, 7-5) and Mark Kneiss (7-5, 3-6, 6-1) to take the lead.
  • First-year Simon Catanzaro closed it out, winning a straight-set decision at number five (6-2, 6-3).

  • Bowdoin has played in the NESCAC final in each of the last three years, winning their last title in 2024, also against Tufts. The Jumbos claimed the regular season meeting between the teams, 7-0, back on April 4.
  • The Polar Bears are in search of their fifth NESCAC crown, having won the conference in 2008, '17, '18, and '24.
