Softball Takes Game One Win In Extra-Innings at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin softball team split its series at Middlebury on Saturday with a game one 4-3 extra-innings win and 4-2 setback in game two.

The Polar Bears are 20-5 (6-4 NESCAC) while the Panthers sit at 21-3 (5-1 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights
  • Middlebury got on the board in the third inning with an RBI triple and RBI bunt.
  • Bowdoin took the lead with a fifth inning rally. Penelope Fong-Picariello hit an RBI single to center and Sammie Wright added an RBI single to left. Maddie Paschke drove in Wright with a double to right center.
  • The Panthers tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with an infield single.
  • Fong-Picariello came up with the eighth inning heroics, singling to right, and driving in Ella Davies for the eventual game-winner.
  • Fong-Picariello, Wright, Paschke, and Chloe Garcia all had two hits.
  • Maddie Current pitched six inning and allowed six hits with three strikeouts. Kathleen Hester got the win in the circle pitching the final two innings with no runs allowed and a pair of hits.

Game Two Highlights
  • Anika Ewert scored for Bowdoin in the third inning to put the Polar Bears on top 1-0. Ewert put the ball back to the pitcher and a throwing error on the play at first gave the speedy senior a chance to round the bases and score.
  • The Panthers did all their scoring in the fourth inning. An RBI single, stolen base, and two-run double was all the offense Middlebury would need.
  • Bowdoin got one run back in the fifth off Baylie Wong's RBI single.
  • Sophia Hahn suffered the loss with four innings of work and five hits allowed with a matching number of strikeouts. Hester pitched the final two innings without giving up a run and fanning one.
