Ephs Suffer First Conference Loss After Softball Splits Series

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team handed Williams its first NESCAC loss of the season in a series split hosted by the Ephs.
 
The Polar Bears are 21-6 (7-5 NESCAC) after a narrow 3-2 loss in game one and 6-4 win in game two. The Ephs are now 15-9 (7-1 NESCAC).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Williams scored in the bottom of the first inning to go ahead 1-0 off an RBI single. The advantage held until the sixth inning.
  • Chloe Garcia tied the game 1-1 in the sixth, singling up the middle to drive in Ella Davies. Williams responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single.
  • Maddie Paschke made it 2-2 in the top of the seventh with a triple down the right field line that drove in Penelope Fong-Picariello.
  • Sidney Miller hit a walk-off single to left in the seventh.
  • Maddie Current pitched a complete seven hit, two earned run, game. Current struck out a pair and walked two.
  • Paschke and Elise Siciliano paced the Polar Bears by going 2-for-3.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Williams jumped out to 3-0 lead after a base-loaded hit by pitch in the first and a two-run double in second.
  • Bowdoin found two runs in the top of the fifth off a Fong-Picariello RBI and Paschke fielder's choice.
  • The Ephs went ahead 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning.
  • The Polar Bears put together a four-run sixth inning to take the lead. Two bases-loaded walks to Kaitlyn Fado and Anika Ewert tied the game. Ellie Sullivan later scored on a wild pitch and Fado scored on an RBI groundout by Fong-Picariello.
  • Kathleen Hester got the start at pitched two innings with three runs allowed. Ava Biasotti pitched three innings with one run allowed off two hits. Sophia Hahn closed out the game and allowed one hit.
  • Ewert was the lone Polar Bear with a multi-hit game.
