BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team blasted past Thomas College in a pair of cold Friday night wins at home.
The Polar Bears are 15-2, posting the best start to a season in program history. Bowdoin won the first game 9-3 and pinned a 13-3 five inning setback on the Terriers (6-11) in game two. Previously, the best start to a season in 2008 when Bowdoin went 14-2 before dropping a three-game series to Tufts.
Game One Highlights
- Chloe Garcia put Bowdoin on the board with an RBI triple in the second inning. Maddie Paschke plated Garcia with a sacrifice fly to center.
- Bowdoin added two more runs in the third on Penelope Fong-Picariello's RBI groundout. Reilly Parga scored on a passed ball.
- Bowdoin ran the score to 7-0 in the fourth. Hannah Murray drove in a run and Parga plated two with a triple.
- Thomas got three runs back in the top of the fifth.
- Murray added a second RBI in the sixth and Anika Ewert laid down a bunt and eventually scored after a throwing error by the pitcher.
- Ewert, Fong-Picariello, Parga, and Paschke all had two hits.
- Maddie Current pitched five innings and allowed eight hits with four strikeouts. Sophia Hahn pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit.
Game Two Highlights
- Thomas scored three runs in the first inning, but Bowdoin answered with 11 in the bottom of the inning.
- Kaitlyn Fado had an RBI single followed by RBI doubles from Rosie Panenka, Baylie Wong, Callie Smith, Parga, and Panenka again. Fado also had a two run triple.
- Panenka doubled again in the third to make it 12-3.
- Ella Davies drove in Bowdoin's final run in the fourth.
- Panenka tied the program record for doubles in a single game with three.
- Ava Biasotti pitched three innings and allowed seven hits with three strikeouts.
- Kathleen Hester pitched a pair of innings with two K's and one hit.
