Six-Run Fifth Inning Sinks Baseball Against Tufts

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Tufts University baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-3 win over Bowdoin in the opener of a three-game NESCAC East Division series Friday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears fall to 6-8 (0-1 NESCAC) while the Jumbos move to 12-2 (1-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The first four innings opened as a pitcher's duel between Tufts' Cole Donato and Bowdoin's Sam Almy as the teams were deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the fifth.
  • Tufts loaded the bases in the fifth frame, scored the first two runs on a single and a bases loaded walk before Tate Bannish tripled, sparking a six-run rally to give the visitors the lead.
  • Bowdoin answered in the bottom of the inning and Liam Foley blasted a three-run homer to left center, cutting the lead to 6-3.
  • The Polar Bears brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth and ninth innings, but couldn't push another over the plate as the Jumbos held on to the victory.

  • Cole Donato (4-0) got the win by striking out nine over seven innings for Tufts, as two relievers combined to close it out.
  • Sam Almy took the loss for the Polar Bears, permitting five earned runs over 4.1 frames.
  • Liam Foley and Lukas Tsai had two hits apiece for Bowdoin while Will Bordes reached base twice and pitched a scoreless ninth for the Polar Bears.
