Baseball Sweeps Tufts in Key NESCAC Doubleheader

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team swept a NESCAC doubleheader from Tufts on Saturday at Pickard Field, taking a pitcher's duel 2-1, before exploding offensively in a 12-5 win.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-8 (2-1 NESCAC) while the Jumbos fall to 12-4 (1-2 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights
  • After Tufts took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Bowdoin pitchers Jackson Melendy and Will Bordes shut down the Jumbos for the remainder of the game.
  • A Reuben Siegel RBI single brought home Will Cooke to tie the score in the third for Bowdoin.
  • Liam Foley delivered the go-ahead single in the fifth, bringing home Siegel with a line drive to left, giving Bowdoin a 2-1 lead.
  • Melendy (1-1) went 4.0 innings for the win, striking out two and allowing one earned run. Will Bordes earned his second save of the season by throwing three perfect innings in relief, striking out three, to seal the win.
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin's offense erupted for nine runs – their biggest inning of the season – in the second frame and never looked back in a game two blowout of the Jumbos.
  • The big blow came from Liam Foley, who blasted a grand slam over the left field wall, that gave Bowdoin a 5-0 lead.
  • Tommy O'Donnell and Will Cooke followed with two run singles to push the lead to 9-0.
  • Tufts was able to cut the lead to 10-4 but Wim Nook delivered his second RBI of the game and Henry Bibeau crushed a solo homer to left to give Bowdoin some insurance on their way to the win.
  • Will Logue got the win for Bowdoin, going 5.1 frames, allowing two earned runs, and striking out four.
  • Will Cooke and Liam Foley both had three hits in the win.
