Anika Ewert Named NFCA Division III Softball Player of the Week

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior Anika Ewert (Newport Coast, Calif.) has been named Division III Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week in honors announced on Tuesday.

Ewert hit .636 (21-for-33) with 18 runs, two doubles, eight RBI, four walks and 17 steals in 17 attempts, as the unbeaten (9-0) Polar Bears won eight straight in Florida and nine overall to match their best start since the 2007 season. Seven of Ewert's eight games last week featured multiple hits, runs and steals.

The Newport Coast, Calif., native collected four hits twice and had two contests with three hits. Ewert didn't strike out once in 37 plate appearances and the speedy center fielder also had 15 putouts and an assist on defense.

Bowdoin's first two-time NFCA All-American, Ewert is the first Bowdoin player to ever earn Division III Player of the Week recognition.
