BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team clinched the number two seed in the NESCAC playoffs despite a 4-1 setback to Tufts to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears head into the postseason with a 17-6-1 record and 13-4-1 NESCAC record. The Jumbos round out the regular season with a 12-11-1 (9-9-0 NESCAC) mark.
Game Highlights
- The Jumbos scored first with a goal at 5:01 in the second. Marcus Sang carried the puck out of the Bowdoin zone along the boards in front of his own bench. Sang passed to Mason Daignault and then skated across his teammate to take the center line and receive a pass back. Sang then slipped a pass to his right for Zach Rizzo on the post for a finish.
- Zach Rizzo ripped a shot from the blue line five minutes into the third period to double the Tufts lead.
- Bowdoin scored midway through the third to get on the board. Following a faceoff on the right dot, Jayson Alegria traded the puck with Michael Dinges and finished off with a shot that deflected off the left post and across the line.
- The Jumbos iced the game with two empty-net goals in the final three minutes.

- Jacob Osborne ended the day with 28 saves.
- Gustave Bylin made 30 stops for Tufts.
- Bowdoin held a narrow 31-30 edge in faceoff wins.
