BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team posted its second consecutive perfect NESCAC regular season with a 70-57 win over Trinity on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears (22-1, 10-0 NESCAC) will be the top seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament which begins with quarterfinal games next Saturday, February 21. Trinity falls to 16-8 (5-5 NESCAC). Complete NESCAC Tournament pairings will be announced following the conclusion of league play on Sunday.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin built a 40-21 halftime lead thanks to a dominating first half performance that saw the Polar Bears shoot 50% from the field and hold the Bantams to 31%.
- Trinity used a big third quarter (19-9) to draw within ten points of the Polar Bears heading into the fourth quarter.
- The Bantams then rolled off an 11-0 run to open the final period, drawing even at 50-50 and, moments later, taking a brief 53-52 edge following a three-pointer with 6:41 to go.
- That lead didn't last long, as Melissa Leone immediately answered with a three-pointer for Bowdoin, regaining the lead 55-53.
- Bowdoin would never trail again and ended the game on an authoritative 15-2 run over the final 5:39 to put away the Bantams for good.
By The Numbers
- The Polar Bears have won 23 consecutive NESCAC league games and are the first conference team to post back-to-back 10-0 seasons in league play since Amherst in 2017-18. They are the first Bowdoin team to have consecutive perfect league records since 2004-05.
- Abbie Quinn was too much for Trinity to handle, finishing with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds with 13 of her points coming in the second half.
- Maria Belardi ended with 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks while Grace Kinum added ten points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
- Jamie Yue scored eight points and had three steals for the Polar Bears, who held Trinity to 38% shooting in the contest.
