MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team skated to a dominating 5-2 win over host Wesleyan on Saturday, concluding the road portion of the regular season.
The Polar Bears return home with a 16-5-1 (12-3-1 NESCAC) record. The Cardinals sit at 8-14-0 (7-9-0 NESAC) in the middle of the conference standings.
Game Highlights
- The teams combined for four goals in the first period, beginning with a Bowdoin goal at 1:08. Will Killoran fired a pass from the right point across to Aidan Lyons on the far circle for a wrister.
- Gabe Shipper added a second goal a minute later. Shipper waited on the red line for a feed from Will Rice and deflected the pass past Patrick McDevitt.
- Wesleyan put a goal on the board midway through the frame. The Cardinals built a two-on-one opportunity skating into the zone and Owen Mahar converted on the right side.
- Bowdoin answered with a power play goal two minutes later. Louie Marcellino slid down the right post and popped a shot to the top shelf near-side.
- Lyons scored his second of the game with a power play wrister from the left dot at 11:40 in the second.
- Jackson Holl set up Jake Minella for Bowdoin's fifth goal of the game at 13:04. Holl passed from the right circle to the left for a one-timer by Minella to the top of the net.
- Mahar backhanded a shot past Osborne in the final minute of the second to make it 5-2.
By the Numbers
- Bowdoin went 2-for-2 on the power play and held the Cardinals to 0-for-2.
- Jacob Osborne made 20 saves.
- McDevitt made 11 saves. Ethan Fehrenbaker made six stops.
- Bowdoin controlled the faceoff dot, winning the battle 38-20.
