Football Heads to Tufts for Saturday Evening NESCAC Clash

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College football team will continue its road swing Saturday evening when the Polar Bears travel to face Tufts University in a 5:00 p.m. New England Small College Athletic Conference matchup at Ellis Oval in Somerville, Massachusetts. Bowdoin (0-3) will look to break into the win column following a competitive setback at Amherst last weekend, while Tufts (2-1) returns home after rallying for a dramatic 22-21 victory over Bates. Saturday will be the 120th meeting between the teams, dating back to 1889.
 
SATURDAY'S GAME
The contest marks Bowdoin's second consecutive road game and the fourth week of the NESCAC season. The Polar Bears are seeking their first victory over the Jumbos since 2014, while Tufts will look to extend its current winning streak in the series.

LAST WEEK
Bowdoin at Amherst: The Polar Bears jumped to an early 10-0 lead and forced four turnovers but could not hold off unbeaten Amherst in a 22-13 setback. Ferris Collins returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown, and Caden Perry connected on field goals of 34 and 38 yards. Bowdoin's defense limited Amherst to just 209 yards of total offense, recorded three sacks, and gave the Polar Bears a late opportunity to rally. Quarterback Soren Hummel completed 23-of-39 passes for 171 yards, while Conrad Babka caught six passes for 61 yards. Charlie Saurack led the defense with eight tackles, and Angus Leary contributed five tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Tufts at Bates: The Jumbos escaped Lewiston with a 22-21 victory after scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion with 51 seconds remaining. Quarterback Hudson Weidman connected with John Getman for the touchdown before finding Christian Shapiro for the go-ahead conversion. Bates drove into field goal range in the closing seconds, but Riley Yaker blocked a 33-yard attempt as time expired. Weidman finished with 194 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Shapiro rushed for 111 yards and totaled 172 all-purpose yards. Getman led the receiving corps with five catches for 70 yards.

  • 6: Bowdoin's defense is tied for the NESCAC lead with six interceptions and also shares the conference lead in forced fumbles (3). The Polar Bears rank second in the conference in sacks and passing defense, allowing just 117.7 yards per game through the air.

LAST MEETING
Tufts earned a 13-0 victory over Bowdoin in the 2025 season opener at Whittier Field. Chartellis Reece scored the game's only touchdown as the Jumbos took a 7-0 first-quarter lead and added field goals in the second and third quarters. The victory extended Tufts' winning streak over Bowdoin to ten consecutive meetings.
 
BOWDOIN vs. TUFTS – ALL-TIME
Tufts leads the all-time series 68-49-2 and has won the last ten meetings dating back to 2015. Bowdoin's last victory came in 2014, a 33-20 decision in Brunswick, while the Polar Bears' most recent road victory over the Jumbos was a 13-10 win in 2013. The teams' most recent meeting at Tufts came in September 2024, when the Jumbos escaped with a 23-21 victory.
