BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team won the 225
th meeting between the Polar Bears and Colby by a 4-1 margin on Saturday night.
Bowdoin (12-5-1, 8-3-1 NESCAC) swept the series for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Colby drops to 9-7-2 (5-6-1 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin nearly scored right out of the gate, less than a minute into the game. Gabe Shipper came up with the puck after a battle in front of the Bowdoin bench. Shipper raced down the ice with a single Colby defender and fired a shot on pads. Will Rice collected the rebound and missed wide left.
- The Polar Bears took the lead on their first power play of the game. Shipper fired from the top and Bryce Bollman pulled the puck off the boards behind Colby's net. Bollman found Michael Dinges on the right dot for a one-timer.
- Bowdoin extended its lead just 41 seconds into the second period. Skating four-on-four, Shipper deked a defender coming down the slot and slipped a pass right to Ricky Volpe. Volpe fired a one-timer to the far post.
- Dinges scored his second of the game with a scrum goal at 16:18.
- Colby broke through a minute later, making it 3-1. Dan Juzych teed up a shot from the left point that deflected off a Bowdoin defender and past a stickless Jacob Osborne.
- Colby picked up its offensive pressure in the third, but it was Bowdoin that found the net at 8:54. Shipper banked a puck off the right boards to Bryce Bollman who carried into the zone and toward net. Bollman circled around and came back to backhand a shot past Cooper Rautenstrauch.
