Women's Hockey Batters Rams to Begin 2026

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team returned to action and started the new year with a 5-0 win at Suffolk on Saturday evening.
 
The Polar Bears are 8-2-0 and drop the Rams to 4-6-1.

Game Highlights
  • After dominating the first period but ending the frame tied 0-0, Bowdoin went up 1-0 with 5:40 remaining in the second. Emma Merrill scored a power play goal with a wrister to the top right shelf from across her body.
  • Anyi Sun added another goal less than a minute later. A defender mishandled along the right boards and Sun jumped on the opportunity. The senior skated into the zone on a breakaway, handled in front of the crease, and converted.
  • Bowdoin scored its third goal in the span of three minutes to close out the second. Meghan Britt took the puck down the right and centered to Luna Lu in the middle for a finish.
  • Bella Schifano made it 5-0 for the Polar Bears with a pair of third period goals. Both Schifano goals came from catch-and-release feeds from behind to in front.
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin went 2-for-3 on the power play.
  • Suffolk was 0-for-1 on the power play.
  • Bowdoin allowed only 13 shots on goal as Abby Matusovich earned the shutout.
  • Lola Rubenstein made 52 saves.
  • Bowdoin won the faceoff battle 28-21.
