Men's Hockey Wins Inaugural Lobster Pot Championship

FALMOUTH, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team won the inaugural Lobster Pot Tournament Championship with a 6-2 victory over the University of New England on Saturday evening.

The Polar Bears (8-2-1) knocked off the Nor'Easters (9-3-0) for the first time since 2016.

Game Highlights
  • The Nor'Easters had a quality opportunity midway through the first period, capitalizing on a Bowdoin turnover in the zone. Braxton Powers intercepted a Polar Bear breakout pass and fired a point-blank shot into Jacob Osborne's chest.
  • Bowdoin responded with a goal two minutes later to take a 1-0 lead. Despite having his stick stuck in the boards, Colin Wojciechowski pushed the puck out to Will Rice who chipped it up to Bryce Bollman. Bollman carried into the zone and shifted left to center before pulling the puck to his forehand and wristing a shot right post.
  • UNE scored two goals within 17 seconds to take the lead in the 14th minute of the second. Mike Tersoni and Nathan Chickering both recorded goals for the Nor'Easters.
  • With 2:03 remaining in the second Bowdoin found an equalizer. Michael Dinges won a faceoff in the defensive zone on the right side and kicked the puck into the corner for Isaac Abbott. Abbott passed up the same side boards to find Aidan Lyons who took it the length of the ice for a finish.
  • Bowdoin found two goals in the first four minutes of the third to take the lead and push the score to 4-2. Jake Minella gave Bowdoin the lead with a finish in front of the crease and Gabe Shipper added a right post goal.
  • The Nor'Easters pulled their goalie with five minutes remaining in the game and allowed a pair of empty net goals for Dinges and Justin Wright.
