Men's Basketball Holds Off Emerson in Road Win

BOSTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team used a late 5-1 run to pull away for a 63-60 win at Emerson College on Saturday afternoon. Winners of four straight, the Polar Bears improve to 9-3 on the year while the Lions fall to 6-5 on the season. 

Game Highlights
  • After trailing by seven in the early going, the Polar Bears rallied to grab a slim 29-27 lead by halftime. 
  • Bowdoin pushed their edge to ten with an 8-0 run out of the gate, capped by three pointers from Ben Chilson and Ray Cuevas
  • Emerson chipped away, closing the gap to a single point on three occasions before taking the lead with 9:14 to go, 47-46. 
  • The Lions still held a 51-49 lead with 8:02 to go before a five point run by Mason Dawkins regained the lead for the Polar Bears. 
  • The teams were tied at 57 apiece with 3:30 to go before a jumper by Chilson and layup by Benedek Maly that pushed the lead to five, 63-58, with 1:45 to go. 
  • Emerson was able to cut the lead to three points but went scoreless over the final 1:26 as Bowdoin hung on to win. 
By The Numbers
  • Ray Cuevas scored 20 points with five boards to lead Bowdoin while Mason Dawkins scored 17 with six rebounds for the Polar Bears. 
  • Bowdoin connected on 53% from the field and held Emerson to 39%, but committed 19 turnovers on the day. 
  • Emerson also went 12-16 from the free throw line compared to 6-9 for Bowdoin.
