Women's Hoops Extends Winning Streak With Road Victory at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team held off Colby in a 61-59 NESCAC road win on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears move to 15-1 (4-0 NESCAC) while the Mules fall to 11-6 (2-2 NESCAC) with their second loss of the year to the Polar Bears.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin owned the opening quarter, scoring 21 points – from seven different players – to take a 21-16 edge after one period of play.
  • Colby responded with a big second quarter, knocking down 53% of their shots and getting a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to take a 35-34 lead at halftime.
  • After Colby took a brief three-point lead in the opening moments of the third quarter, Maria Belardi answered with five straight points to regain the lead for Bowdoin on a three-pointer with 8:25 to go in the frame. The Polar Bears would never trail again in the game.
  • The Mules tied the game on five occasions in the second half but could never regain the lead as Bowdoin answered every blow. Colby deadlocked the game for the final time at 51 apiece with 6:45 to go, but Carly Davey immediately responded with a long-distance three-pointer to give Bowdoin a 54-51 edge they would never relinquish.
  • Bowdoin pushed the lead to as many as six points with 1:30 to go, and held the Mules off in the closing minute as Amelia Hanscom missed a potential go-ahead three-pointer at the buzzer.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin finished at 38% shooting and held the Mules to 35%. The Mules out-rebounded Bowdoin 41-35, but the Polar Bears scored 13 points off 14 Colby turnovers.
  • Abbie Quinn continued her torrid play, scoring 18 points with seven rebounds. Carly Davey scored eight of her nine points in the fourth quarter for the Polar Bears.
  • Melissa Leone had eight points and five boards off the bench while Grace Kinum finished with six points, seven caroms, and seven assists.
  • The Polar Bears have won nine straight and 28 of their last 29 against Colby.
