Panthers Pin Last Second Setback On Women's Hockey

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team fell 3-2 on a last second goal against Middlebury on Friday night.
 
The Polar Bears suffer their third straight setback and sit at 9-5-0 (3-4-0 NESCAC). The Panthers climb to 10-2-3 (6-1-2 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • Sarah Peterson made a big save for the Polar Bears seven minutes into the second period to keep the game tied at 0-0. Trinity Walsh teed up a one-timer on the left post only to see Peterson slide across the crease and deny the shot at the post.
  • Bowdoin struck first just under ten minutes into the period. Bella Mele passed from the left to Bella Schifano in the center. Schifano slipped the puck right to Luna Lu for a one-timer at the far post.
  • The Panthers responded two minutes later to tie the game. Walsh carried down the left side and found Caroline Thomas in the slot. Thomas put a little off-speed backhander inside the right post.
  • The scoring continued as Bowdoin regained the lead with another goal in the final five minutes. Luna Lu pick-pocketed a defender behind the net and found Schifano in the center for another tally.
  • Midway through the third, Middlebury found the net on a power play opportunity. Britt Nawrocki put a shot on pads from the right post and collected her own rebound to tie the game.
  • The game-winner came with 13 seconds remaining as Avery McInerny won a faceoff on the left dot and found Walsh. Walsh pushed the puck to Thomas who finished in front of the net to make it 3-2.

  • Middlebury finished 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • The Panthers won the faceoff battle with a 35-19 edge.
