Shipper and Osborne Propel Polar Bears Past Cardinals

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team had a perfect weekend after finishing off visiting Wesleyan 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears are 10-4-1 (6-2-1 NESCAC) and drop the Cardinals to 5-8-0 (4-4-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears scored midway through the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Will Killoran slipped a pass from the right point to Gabe Shipper on the left. Shipper threaded a shot through traffic in front of the net to beat Patrick McDevitt near post.
  • Wesleyan nearly found an equalizer while on the penalty kill in the second. The Cardinals forced a turnover and earned a two-on-one breakaway that resulted in a point-blank shot from Danny Judge that was denied by Jacob Osborne.
  • Bowdoin doubled its lead in the final nine seconds of the period. Will Rice won a faceoff on the right dot and muscled the puck up to Shipper. Shipper fired a shot into the net.
  • Bowdoin came out and scored 2:30 into the third to make it 3-0. Mattie Wierl received the puck along the back boards from Pierre Larocque and fed J.J. Lemieux in the slot. Lemieux deftly received the puck and fired off a quick shot.
 
By the Numbers
  • Osborne picked up his third shutout of the season with 23 saves, including nine in the last period.
  • McDevitt made 27 saves.
  • Bowdoin dominated the faceoff battle with a 40-22 edge on the dot.
  • Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
