Men's Basketball Can't Hold Halftime Lead in Loss at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team couldn't hold a halftime lead and fell to Bates on Friday evening, dropping an 88-76 decision to the Bobcats. The Polar Bears drop to 10-6 (1-2 NESCAC) with the loss. Bates moves to 12-3 (1-2 NESCAC) with their first conference win.
 
Game Highlights
  • Ten points from Kevin Reeves and 53% shooting from the field lifted Bowdoin from an early 11-0 deficit to take an improbable 40-35 halftime lead.
  • Down 27-21 with eight minutes left in the opening frame, Bowdoin closed the half on a 19-8 surge to take the lead at the break.
  • Bowdoin pushed their lead to seven points on a Ray Cuevas jumper, 46-39, with 17 minutes left in the contest before Bates began their rally.
  • A quick 7-0 Bobcat run tied the game at 46 and, after the teams traded buckets, Bowdoin went cold from the field for a four minute stretch and Bates used a 14-4 run that turned a tie game into a double-digit lead with seven minutes remaining.
  • Bowdoin could get no closer than eight points over the remainder of the game.

  • Bates shot 53% in the second half to finish at 47% for the game while knocking down 24-32 free throws.
  • Bowdoin finished at 45% shooting for the contest and went 16-28 from the stripe.
  • Ray Cuevas finished with 18 points while Ben Chilson added 16.
  • Mason Dawkins and Kevin Reeves had 13 apiece. Benedek Maly finished with a team-best eight rebounds.
  • The difference in the contest proved to be 21 Bates points off 15 Bowdoin turnovers.
