Women's Basketball Stifles WPI in Tuesday Non-Conference Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team used a stellar defensive effort to defeat WPI, 62-43, on Tuesday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears improve to 12-1 on the season while the Engineers fall to 9-5.
 
Game Highlights
  • Seven first quarter points by Carly Davey gave the Polar Bears a slim 16-13 lead after one quarter of play as Bowdoin shot 53% from the field in the opening period.
  • WPI cut Bowdoin's lead to a single point, 19-18, early in the second quarter, but Bowdoin closed the half on a 12-5 surge, capped by a three-pointer by Katherine Garr, to take a 31-23 lead at halftime.
  • The Polar Bears took command in the third quarter, shooting 58% from the floor, and getting nine points from Abbie Quinn, extending their lead to 20 points on a 7-0 run (featuring five points from Payton Collins) to lead 56-36.
  • Bowdoin led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter as they held WPI to just 20 second half points and a season-low 43 for the game.

  • Bowdoin finished at 43% shooting for the game, connecting on nine three-pointers, and just eight turnovers in the contest.
  • WPI shot 37% from the field and allowed 13 second chance points and 12 points off turnovers to the Polar Bears.
  • Carly Davey finished with a game-high 15 points while Abbie Quinn scored 13 and grabbed five boards.
  • Grace Kinum had nine points, five boards, and five assists while Melissa Leone added seven.
