Field Hockey Storms Nor'Easters in Season Opening Shutout

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team exploded for seven goals in the season opener against the University of New England on Wednesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears begin the year with a 1-0 record and drop the Nor'Easters to 1-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Andrea DiTeodoro put Bowdoin on the board at 4:24 in the first quarter.
  • Hannah Balmelli scored the first of her three goals with a one-on-one conversion that started with a charge in from the right side, seconds into the second quarter.
  • Balmelli made it 3-0 five minutes later with a helper from Emily Ferguson. Clara Noyes added another tally at the 23 minute mark.
  • Balmelli recorded the hat trick with a goal in the final three minutes of the third quarter. Fei Yang-Sady set up the play.
  • Mackay Bommer made it 6-0 early in the fourth and Yang-Sady had her first collegiate goal in the final ten seconds of regulation.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. Lauren O'Donald played the first half and Eva Filipponi stopped a pair of shots in the second.
  • Savanna Harvey made four saves in 49 minutes for UNE. Greta Jennison stopped one shot in the final minutes.
  • Bowdoin earned four penalty corners and surrendered six.
