Polar Bears Can't Overcome First Half Goals In 2-1 Loss At Williams

 
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Bowdoin women's soccer team scored a late goal but could not catch Williams in a 2-1 Sunday showdown.
 
The Polar Bears are 4-3-0 (1-3-0 NESCAC). The Ephs climb to 5-1-2 (4-1-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Williams scored two first half goals to put the Polar Bears on their heels.
  • Maya Lloyd took the ball down the right side and centered a pass low in the box that deflected off Elizabeth Stophel. Stophel's touch sent the ball to Lucy Carrel who took advantage of Charlotte Iannone's positioning to make it 1-0 in the 19th minute.
  • Lloyd and Stophel connected six minutes later. Stophel worked the ball deep down the right side to the post. Stophel drew Iannone and dished center for an open look by Lloyd.
  • Bowdoin broke through in the final five minutes as Stephanie Christianson converted on a penalty kick.

  • Williams held a 9-4 edge in shots on goal and a 16-12 overall shot advantage.
  • The Polar Bears trailed in corner kicks by a narrow 7-6 margin.
