BRUNSWICK, Maine –
Nicky Pearson earned her 400
th career win at the helm of the Bowdoin field hockey team as the Polar Bears cruised to a 3-0 victory over visiting Wellesley on Wednesday night.
Bowdoin remains perfect with a 5-0 record and drop the Blue to 1-4.
The head coach at Bowdoin since 1996, Pearson has led the Polar Bears to unprecedented success, and she is just the tenth coach in Division III field hockey history to surpass the 400-win plateau.
Her resume includes eight NESCAC titles, nine NESCAC Coach of the Year awards, and four NFHCA Division III Coach of the Year honors. In 2007, she led Bowdoin to a perfect 20-0 campaign and the school's first-ever team NCAA Championship. In all, she has led the Polar Bears to four Division III crowns (2007, '08, '10, '13).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin scored all three of its goals in the first quarter of play. Emily Ferguson got the team on the board at 5:24. Ferguson stick handled with her back to the goal and found enough of an opening to backhand a no-look shot into the cage.
- Just forty seconds later, Hannah Balmelli made it 2-0. Clara Noyes put a shot toward the left post and Balmelli worked to push the ball past Katelyn Hurt.
- With under five minutes remaining in the quarter, Ferguson scored her second of the game. The forward sliced through the circle at an angle and lifted the ball over the goalie's hands.

- The Polar Bears allowed two penalty corners and earned seven.
- Lauren O'Donald and Eva Filipponi split time with O'Donald making a save in the first half.
