MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin College men's tennis team will play for the NESCAC Tournament for the third straight season after defeating Amherst 5-2 in the conference semifinals Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (17-3) will look to repeat as NESCAC Champions, and claim their fifth title overall, when they battle Middlebury at 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
Match Highlights
- Bowdoin got off on the right foot with a pair of doubles wins to take the key doubles point to start off the day.
- Pieter Breuker/Kiran Garapati (6-0) won a quick match, followed by Jackson Codd/Mark Kneiss (7-6) in a lengthy one to give the Polar Bears the early edge.
- Singles started in waves, and Bowdoin won a pair of early matches thanks to Breuker (7-5, 1-6, 7-5) and Andrew Mendelson (6-4, 6-4).
- With Amherst closing to within 3-2, Kiran Garapati closed it out with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number five to clinch the win.
