Men's Lacrosse Falls in NESCAC Semifinals to Wesleyan

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team mounted a furious fourth quarter rally, but couldn't hold off Wesleyan in a 9-8 setback in the NESCAC semifinals Saturday at Tufts.
 
The Polar Bears (13-3) will now await word on NCAA Tournament selections which will be announced Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. at NCAA.com.
 
Game Highlights
  • A low-scoring affair saw the Cardinals hold a 5-3 edge at halftime, and both teams go scoreless in the third quarter.
  • A wild fourth period witnessed Wesleyan pushing their lead to 7-3 before a furious Bowdoin comeback, keyed by a Brooks Kitchel goal, gave them their first lead of the game.
  • Chris Berry and Patrick Fitzgerald scored two goals each in a 5-0 run that lifted Bowdoin to a 8-7 with with 5:09 to go.
  • However, Wesleyan tied the game on a goal with 2:41 to go and take the lead with 1:33 on the clock.
  • Bowdoin had two late shots to tie it, but both attempts were saved by Wesleyan netminder Conor Selfridge as the Cardinals clung to victory.
By The Numbers
  • The eight goals in the loss were tied for the least goals scored in a game by Bowdoin this season.
  • Robert Hobbs made 11 saves for Bowdoin while Selfridge stopped 16 for Wesleyan.
  • Jed Hoggard had five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Nico Schermer had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Jack Pyne had three ground balls and two caused.
  • Patrick Fitzgerald paced Bowdoin with three goals while Chris Berry had two goals and an assist.
