Softball Picks Up Series Sweep Against Hamilton

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin softball team continued its upward trajectory in conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Hamilton on Friday afternoon.
 
The games that had already been rescheduled once were played at Trinity. Bowdoin is 19-17 overall with a 6-10 NESCAC record. The Continentals are 15-15 with a matching NESCAC record of 6-10.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The game resumed in the second inning after being suspended previously due to weather. Bowdoin led 2-0 with a pair of first inning bases-loaded walks.
  • Bowdoin extended its lead in the fifth inning as Anika Ewert scored on a throw to second attempting to throw Kyla Gary out on a steal. Gary later scored off a single by Reilly Parga. JK Bradley added another RBI single.
  • Hamilton got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the inning with two RBI singles.
  • Elise Siciliano launched a solo shot over the left field fence in the sixth to make it 6-3.
  • Hamilton rallied to take the lead with a four-run sixth inning.
  • Bowdoin forced extra innings as Bradley doubled to center and plated Kaitlyn Fado.
  • Parga provided the game-winning RBI double in the eighth inning.
  • Maddie Current pitched 4.1 innings and allowed six hits with one earned run and three strikeouts.
  • Kathleen Hester pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed three hits with four strikeouts and recorded a one-two-three flyout inning in the eighth.
  • Parga led the way with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate and two RBI.
  • Bradley went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin got on the board in the first inning as Chloe Garcia drove in a run with a chop to shortstop.
  • Ewert added an RBI double in the second and Penelope Fong-Picariello added a two-run single to right center.
  • The Continentals scored on an error in the bottom of the second to make it 4-1.
  • Bowdoin added three more runs in the third inning. A double from Siciliano, and singles by Rosie Panenka and Ewert all drove in runs.
  • Hamilton again answered in the bottom half of the inning, plating one.
  • The Continentals found two more runs in the fifth but could not close the gap.
  • Ellie Sullivan went five innings and allowed nine hits with three earned runs.
  • Ava Biasotti got the save with two innings of work and one hit allowed. Biassoti fanned one batter.
  • Ewert and Parga both went 3-for-4.
  • Siciliano and Panenka both had two hits.
